NLC 2015: THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO

The national leadership development conference is just around the corner. In Less than 3 weeks, young, smart youths across over 14 states in Nigeria and beyond will converge in the ancient city of Benin-city to reflect and deliberate on things that matter. A National conference is  big deal; AIESECers talk about, plan ahead for  it for months. Everyone look forward to the arrival day---The long journey from different part of the nation coupled with the fun activities initiated by AIESECers to cushion stress of long hours Journey; That first day where Newcomers to the scene look half confused, trying to make sense of the beautiful scenery and the warmth around; And  of course, the “Oldies” will go about catching up with their friends from other LCs---The hugs, the gossips, the throaty laughter, the little talks on how tough AIESEC work is, and the other “catching ups”. LOL.
On the arrival day for this particular conference, we expect lots of talk revolving around politics, the losers and winners of the recent election, expectations from the incoming government----Our arrival day coincides with the day swearing in of the incoming government. This is significant in itself.

We all expect an awesome conference. We expect AIESEC Benin to be awesome hosts with nice, comfortable accommodation, fun, other welfare and FOOD!!! Yes,FOOD!!! FOOD!!! FOOOOOOOOOD!!!!

At NLC, we will all have the opportunity to see the bigger picture of our organization, the world and the role we can play in perfecting the our common visions. We will all have the chance to gain skills that will be of long term value to us. But far from the “Formal” awesomeness, what should we all be expecting when you hit the ground in Benin city?

BENIN CITY

Yes, Benin city. The conference, as we all know, will be hosted in Benin City. This is great news in itself since we will get to have a glimpse of the ancient city. For those interested in African art and culture, this should even be greater news given the special place Benin City holds in Nigeria’s art/culture.  For those not so interested, a Google search on Benin City should get your mouth watering.
And, of course, we are lucky to have the beautiful people of Edo state as hosts.

THE NEW FACES OF AIESEC NIGERIA

At NLC 2015, we will all get to meet the newest faces of AIESEC Nigeria.  The first flashpoint will be the new MC team, the brave individuals who will be steering the affairs of this great organization for the next twelve months. The other half of the flashpoint will be the newest LCPs in the entity----This year, we are lucky to have lots of female LCPs within the organization. And of course, the other new faces will be the organization’s newest recruits, the fresh bloods within the organization. For those seeking new dimensions to mentorship and friendship, NLC 2015 will offer great prospects.

AMAZING DELEGATES

As has been stated already, NLC will witness a huge turnout for new recruits----And old members for whom NLC will be the first conference. Imagine young, inquisitive individuals with crazy ideas of changing the world, from different regions within and outside Nigeria, with varying shades of experience and internalization within and outside AIESEC spending 4 days together in one of the most exciting cities in Nigeria. Yes, it is going to be that awesome.

UGO WILL DANCE ALL THE ROLL CALLS

His name is Ugochukwu Modum from AIESEC Lagos. He is light-complexioned, lanky and often wraps his head in a cap too big for his head with large shades to match. This is to help you spot him at the first morning plenary. He will (Of course) be on the stage dancing roll calls. It is tradition that Ugo dance to all the roll calls. He is a dancing machine, one of the few characters that lends life to national conferences. We look forward to meeting him again.

JIBOLA WILL WIN THE AWARD FOR “HUSBAND MATERIAL”

Jibola is the National Vice president, Marketing and communications(For those who don’t know him). He is responsible for all the awesome digital content about Nigeria you see on facebook and other platforms. Far from his skills in digital marketing, he is a serial winner of the “HUSBAND MATERIAL” (makeshift) award in what we know as the toilet awards in AIESEC. We expect him to win that of NLC too.

TALENT HUNT/TREASURE HUNT

Hopefully, there should be a talent hunt/show at NLC. Here we get to see the crop of talents we have in AIESEC. From singers, comedians, dancers to blunt-edged magicians.
We also look forward to a treasure hunt(Our own sort of Gulder Ultimate search). Delegates have the opportunity to hunt down amazing gifts hidden in the most discreet locations at the conference venue; it will be a test for delegate’s power for imagination and intuition. Redeemable items could range from phones, recharge cards, AIESEC T-shirts and……………. Cars(just kidding).

FAREWELL(PARTY) TO OUR KENYAN SISTERS

Over the course of the past 11 months, we’ve had the privilege to host two amazing Kenyan ladies who, for their passion for AIESEC and its vision, left their country to work with AIESEC Nigeria; they’ve offered different perspectives in their respective functional areas and the results speak for themselves. Hopefully, there will be a farewell party for them. At NLC, we should all have the chance to wish them farewell, say all the things that truly matter(for those who have been crushing on them)

GOSSIPS/DOCTOR LOVE/SUGAR CUBES.

Yes, Gossips!!! Expect the funniest, most creatively subtle punchlines at NLC. With most LCPs female this year, we should all be looking forward to an exciting evening plenary filled with the warmest humour possible. Following it closely is Doctor Love and romantic messages shoved inside Sugar cubes

FUN…FUN…FUN

Pool parties? Zombie night? Cultural night? The options are boundless.  After the business of the day, nights are always reserved for awesome social activities. We expect the nights to be long and colourful.
